For many years as a jeweler and now a full time painter Amanda chooses to focus on the beautiful and joyful parts of life in her work. An ever present theme of her work is celebrating the beauty in familiar objects and landscapes.

Amanda’s work celebrates the line, shape, colour and texture that brings a work alive. There is a constant organic conversation which goes on between her and the work to deliver the end result.

A strong emphasis is on the way a work feels. ‘I won’t stop until it feels just right. If it doesn’t feel quite right it just won’t make the cut.’ For Amanda art making is not a choice it’s a very necessary part of life.

Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

Acrylic or oil on canvas . The immediacy of acrylic is so satisfying. I work in many layers so having paint dry quickly is great for that. Oil is beautiful to move around the canvas and is so rich in texture. Both have their benefits.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I take many photos which help with referencing shapes colour, ideas ect. I usually don’t draw first I just start painting an let the composition evolve. It’s ready to show when I feel it’s right and not until then.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I have a studio outside Scone NSW overlooking the Hunter River. It’s very tranquil and there are birds chirping outside. I have two dogs who keep me company when I paint.
