Mixed Media
Aleisha Hobson
Aleisha’s work involves experimenting with different media including plasters, hand forged pieces of brass and natural pigments to bring a tactile and textural element to her work, blurring the lines between a painting and sculpture.
Artist Profile
Aleisha resides in a small coastal town on the Qld coast, and is heavily influenced by her tropical surrounds. Allot of her pieces are still life focussed, with an abstract and playful twist. Despite this, her work isn’t bound to one particular genre, as she prefers to explore different styles without restriction. Along with her more sculptural plaster pieces, Aleisha also enjoys working with other media including painting with acrylics and oils pastels.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with a range of media including natural plasters & pigments, brass, acrylic and oil pastels to name a few.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
I save images of colours and other things that inspire me, along with photos from my day to day which inspire some of my work. I also keep a sketchbook of any concepts I’d like to explore in future works. My plaster works are constructed from base to finish in my home, by myself. Brass elements are hand sculpted in my studio by me as well.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I have a few creative zones which are all based from my home, including an outdoor construction zone, a metal working bench and then a room which I call my studio where I do most of my painting. My studio walls are are plastered with images and sketches, and the room is full of curiosities that inspire my work like shells, vintage finds and ceramics.
