Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
My medium of choice is oil paint. Oil paintings have a long history of durability and longevity, with colours that remain vibrant over centuries, making them an ideal medium for creating enduring artworks. Investing in my oil paintings ensures you acquire pieces that are completed using professional grade, archival materials and will remain highly valued in the art world.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
There’s a lot involved in terms of gathering inspiration and planning. For my still life paintings, I select and arrange the subjects to effectively capture the envisioned mood and light. This stage includes gathering reference materials and creating preliminary sketches. Once I am happy with the composition, I prepare the canvas and create the underpaining to establish the basic shapes and light sources. This foundation guides the detailed work that follows. Using oil paintings, my artworks are built in layers, starting with broad areas of colour and gradually adding details. Once a painting is completed, it is varnished to protect the surface and enhance the colours.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I create my art from my home studio, a bright and inviting space that I designed to inspire creativity and productivity.
