Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I work with acrylic paints and paint on canvas. I love the diversity of acrylic paint. It can be diluted with water or modified with mediums. I like the ability to paint layers, acrylic paint allows that.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I am constantly thinking of my next piece. I always take photos when I am out and about. I take photos of flora at private and public gardens. I also visit florists regularly to arrange a display of flora to paint. I take photos of birds in my area, particularly magpies. I paint from objects in front of me and I often paint from photos.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I work at my little studio set up in my home, in an Eastern suburb of Melbourne. My dog, a four year old Frenchie, Billy, is usually in his bed by my easel. I often have to stop painting as Billy wants me to pick him up for cuddles!
