Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I love working with acrylic paint, mainly because of their ease and versatility. I like that they dry quickly, so I can add new layers and create special interest in the piece.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I create artwork inspired by photos from my travels overseas. I start out by sketching my idea on to the canvas, then using acrylic paint I create a naive-style painting. After completing each piece, I apply a gloss varnish to enhance its finish, and then frame it in a floating frame.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I have a studio at the the 'Burrinja Cultural Centre' in Upwey, Victoria. The venue features two art galleries, 16 open studio spaces, a theatre, and a café and is open to the public from Wed – Sun 10am – 4pm. Art lovers are encouraged to come in and visit the artists while they are at work.
