Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with acrylic paint and ink to keep things flowing. I layer converging lines and colour-rich panels over a slightly raw canvas so you can see the texture and brushstrokes.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
Every piece begins with an idea and a colour way… then goes on its own adventure. Some paintings naturally fall into place quickly whereas others have a long series of layers before the right balance is achieved. I photograph my artworks and experiment with colour options digitally. I also shift the pieces around my studio and my house to view them in different light and different situations. They always change so much in different settings.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I paint at home at this stage. I have a studio set up in a room that looks onto the trees but I tend to also spill out into the living room and garden, making a huge mess. I paint daily, whether it's half an hour or 4 hours, I find things work better when I show up every day.
