Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I use acrylic because I tend to be impatient and like to start and finish a work within several days, painting at night and even before my day job to add love the layers showing through to show the process. starting out mainly on stretched canvas, I've really enjoyed painting on timber panel of late.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
I like to start with washing the surface in a colour that will inspire or set the mood for the piece. I sketch out the rough forms with a narrow brush and work in layers. adding the background in and light sources at the end are my favourite parts.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
Having been an antique dealer in the past my home is full of unique and rather obscure pieces, including a faux marlin head in my lounge room to victorian treasures and collectibles. Not having a large studio space as such, my work table has everything within reach and i prefer to paint flat than up on an easel.
