Krystal art is a sensory journey. She explores the human experience through pattern, colour, and form, capturing moments of imperfection. By blending delicate paintwork with expressive, fractured mark-making, she examines the tension between order and disruption, revealing the complexity of both physical and emotional landscapes.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I love to use acrylic paint to layer and build patterns with. I use it with both washes and chunky applications to really make the surface a tactile experience.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
There are a range of processes in place. I would usually start with a palette that is connecting to the place or space I am reacting to. I usually mock up a variety mini works to draw from, then paint them in A3 formats to play with scale and texture. Next I move to the canvas and sketch /plan out the composition, referring both to the understudies and colour palettes developed. Also going back to the original source of inspiration whatever that may be (landscape photo etc) and print it out to look at whilst I paint. Then the magic happens!
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
In our newly built home, I have a functioning art studio with sink and storage facilities, plus an external access point for clients or work "shoppers" to come in to meet me. It has a mix of completed and work in progress works on display, and LOTS of paint! A wonderful array of creative energy!
