Artist Profile

Simple, fun, bright coloured oil paintings.

Maddison Heart is an Australian artist who finds inspiration in the beauty of everyday objects, transforming them into striking still-life compositions. Working primarily with oil paint, she embraces the expressive potential of thick, textured applications, using a palette knife to sculpt dynamic surfaces that bring her subjects to life. This impasto technique enhances the physical presence of each piece, creating a sense of movement and energy within seemingly simple arrangements. Her work is defined by bold, vibrant colour choices—unexpected yet harmonious combinations that elevate ordinary scenes into captivating visual experiences. Deep, moody hues might contrast against bursts of luminous tones, while subtle undertones add complexity and depth. Through carefully balanced compositions, she explores the interplay between form, colour, and texture, drawing the viewer into a world where light dances across rich, layered surfaces. Maddison’s paintings are more than representations; they are sensory experiences, inviting viewers to feel the weight of a ripe fruit, the coolness of a ceramic vessel, or the delicate folds of a cloth. Her passion lies in capturing not just objects but the atmosphere they create, celebrating the richness of the everyday with an artistry that is both expressive and deeply evocative.

Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I love working with oil paint because it encourages a slower, more intentional process, allowing me to thoughtfully consider each next step.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

In my "studio", I arrange a small still life featuring my favourite household items, painting from life as I transform the canvas with evolving colours.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I don't have a studio yet, I paint on my kitchen table when I have time. There is lovely natural light which helps!
