Christina’s work is predominantly informed by lived experience and focuses on exploring memory, the transitional process of coming-of-age and her identity as a neurodivergent woman. Christina’s practice integrates refined figuration, symbolic motifs, text and gestural abstraction, each composition merging these elements to convey the specific autobiographical narratives at the core of the work.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with a variety of mediums within my painting practice. I mainly use oil paint due to its forgiving nature, which allows me to create highly refined details. More recently I have began to use acrylic paint to explore gestural abstraction.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
After deciding the initial concept, I go through stages of experimentation with several aspects of the visual composition. I trial various colours, textures and imagery to explore every potential direction for the piece.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
My creative working environment is full of both contemporary and historical imagery which inspires me. I am surrounded by small experimental trials and notes with ideas scribbled down. I always wear my noise cancelling headphones and listen to fast paced music while I paint as it helps me to get into a 'flow state' to concentrate on the piece I am working on.
