Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with oil paints as I enjoy the slow drying time. Oils have a great versatility in creating many painterly effects and they are also very forgiving.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
An idea for a painting can be something I've thought about for a while, or something that comes to me spontaneously. The early stages involves a sketch where i workout my drawing and my lights and darks, adjusting the composition as needed. I like to visualise the final painting, even if it doesn't work out that way it helps to keep me moving forward through any challenging stages.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
My studio is at home at the bottom of the garden. I often add botanic elements to my compositions and so the echoes of past paintings linger on in the form of dried flowers, plants and fruit. I also have my outdoor painting set up, which is like my portable studio.
