Artist Profile
Eve’s connection to outback Australia is evident in her eclectic portfolio of nature and landscape paintings.
Eve Sellars is a full time artist based in country Victoria, whose paintings have been exhibited nationally. She describes her works as being a reflection of her love for the natural world, as well as its history, its fragility, and its breathtaking beauty. In her artistic practice, Eve stylizes her view of her environment, amplifying its colors, and distorting its view, using a limited colour palette and a variety of convention and non-conventional tools. Her art is passionate, approachable and honest; and is held in private collections all over Australia and abroad.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I use acrylic paint for my vast landscapes, and oil paint for smaller works and botanical paintings. Each has its own character (acrylic is wonderful for layering, while oil is perfect for blending). I also utilize objects found in nature – sticks, woodash, clay, charcoal and rainwater.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
Sketches onto the canvas using complementary colours usually fuel the fire of inspiration and blocking in soon takes over. If an exhibition is planned, I will paint on multiple artworks at once, keeping movement in the studio and adopting a fluid approach to my technique.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
My studio is nestled into the bush in central Victoria, surrounded by gum trees and a noisy population of birds, and overlooks the mountains and pasture adjacent to the Goulburn River. It is on the same property as my home – rambling acreage which encourages and sustains much wildlife. We live entirely off-grid using rainwater and solar power.
