Artist Profile

Elle Pervez is a contemporary landscape artist and paints the Australian landscape, chasing the light as it changes over outback and country Australia.

Elle Pervez grew up in a creative family between a farm in rural New South Wales and remote communities in the Northern Territory. This inspired within her a love of the vast and ever changing Australian landscape, which continues to be a strong influence in her art practice.

Elle uses a combination of brush and palette knife using acrylic on canvas, and every now and again you will catch a glimpse of metallic gold leaf and oil stick in order to create a lush and unique mixed media work. She enjoys creating mixed media works, and even incorporates gemstones fossicked near Alice Springs into her work. The desert remains her constant muse, and you will often hear her say that “the desert stole my heart”.

Elle’s paintings are all about conjuring a sense of connectedness to the land, using colour and shape to evoke emotion, memory and a sense of place. She hopes that her paintings will add colour to the homes they live in and bring happiness to all those who see them.

Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I work with a range of materials simply because I love to create an artwork that is full or texture and interest. From acrylic to oil stick to gold foil to gemstones (and even sand!), I love to use a range of materials so that you can enjoy my art even if you close your eyes and run your hands across the canvas.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I sometimes paint from photos, and sometimes just from pure imagination and memory. I often do a mix of this because I like to get my desert ranges close to the silhouette of the outback where they are inspired.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I have recently moved house and when we designed our new home, I was lucky enough to be able to add a large room for my art practice. I have two large windows overlooking our hilly property and I have a beautiful mustard yellow couch in my studio which I just love. My studio is a mix of mess, quirky things to look at and of course my daughter who absolutely loves to help and paint too.
