Artist Profile
Christine is a self taught Sydney based artist working on Camaraigal land. Coming from a background of food and design, she’s influenced by local artisans and the every-day inspirations that surrounds her.
Christine paints oil on board, using ‘alla prima’. She distills the interplay of light on objects and in the landscape, creating brightness and shadows through her loose brush strokes and use of colour. She draws inspiration from the understated beauty in simple everyday moments and the ever changing light on the landscape.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I love working with oils as I like to work quickly. The richness of colour and texture allows me to paint 'alla prima', capturing the moment, not the detail, in broad brush strokes.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
I look, look and look then make a quick sketch. I dry brush my sketch onto the board then just go for it!
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I work from my light filled studio at home that is a converted storage room that looks out onto my garden.
