Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I primarily work in oil paint. I find the slow drying nature to work well with my subject matter and level of rendering i like to achieve. There are so many different techniques to play around with that every painting is a new learning experience.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I have a list of ideas I think might work well as an image, then i start to collect reference photos to help visualise the idea. I will then usually do a rough photoshop mock up, or small painting study to see if my idea is as effective as a painting. If I think the work will be successful, I will then move to canvas. Sometimes however, I feel so strongly about the image I've created in my head, that I will jump straight onto large canvas without any prep work.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I work from my home studio in Perth, usually accumulating kids toys throughout the week.
