Artist Profile

Alicia Gilchrist is an Australian artist whose paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions. Her abstractions are designed to evoke emotion and capture attention through the use of bright, vibrant colours, and an energetic style of painting.

Alicia creates paintings people feel a connection with, that help to make their house a home and spark conversation. Her expansive paintings use a wide range of colours, convey a positive, upbeat energy, and are often so full of texture you’ll want to reach out and touch the paint.

She uses high quality acrylic paints on stretched canvas. The sides of her paintings are always painted so a frame is optional. All paintings are signed on either the front and/or the back of the painting. All paintings come ready to hang. Alicia lives in Canberra with her husband and four young children.

Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

High quality, heavy bodied acrylic paint to create as much texture as possible. I love that the texture adds another dimension for the viewer to engage with. Occasionally I also use acrylic spray paint and sand.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

Sometimes an idea for a painting will pop into my mind and I can't shake the idea until I have put it on canvas. Other times I let the painting take the lead and allow one paint brush stroke to guide the next.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

My studio is my lounge room. I work on two large easels at the back of the lounge room so that I can keep an eye on my four young children and energetic dog while I paint, and I can also have a painting ready to go for when I can find a few spare moments.
