Artist Profile
Bronwyn Tracey is a contemporary Australian artist living on Dja Dja Wurrung country in North-Central Victoria. Her work celebrates the unseen views of her local landscapes. Inspired by native flora, wildlife and landscapes, she creates original artworks that balance careful observation with expressive mark-making.
Working primarily in acrylic, Bronwyn’s practice explores texture, form and colour to evoke a strong sense of place and connection to the natural world.
Immersed in the bushland and regional landscapes of her small town, Bronwyn draws inspiration from close observation and ongoing engagement with her surroundings. Her works often begin with field observation and reference imagery, developing into detailed illustrations and vibrant paintings that reflect both the delicacy and resilience of Australian ecosystems. Familiar environments are rendered with clarity and warmth, inviting viewers to pause and reconnect with the everyday beauty of nature.
Bronwyn seeks to foster appreciation for Australia’s natural environment, creating works that are accessible, contemplative and grounded in place.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
Acrylic paint forces you to work quickly and think less. My other medium is pen and watercolour illustration – a slow and painstaking process. Acrylic on canvas offers a means of more immediate expression and mark-making that is very freeing and exciting!
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
I am very visual and am known to pullover my car or stop mid-walk or chat, distracted by natural sights. I often take my prized camera with me to capture my own reference photos. I take great pride in observing, recording and then recreating what I see. It’s a complete process!
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I live on a hill with elevated views of my tiny town, and I am inspired by the seemingly inconsequential landscapes, flora and fauna that I observe every day. I create in my home, where I can balance my family and art teaching life.
