Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I work with acrylics, underpainting first to create a depth and glow. I prefer acrylic paints due the drying time. This enables me to create detailed works, building the layers and intuitive marks that form a patina and vintage "film like" appearance.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

My process involves capturing images through photographs, using this as a way to document fleeting moments of intriguing details in everyday settings. These reference photos are then interpreted as sketches, helping me to explore compositions, textures and light as they are transferred onto the canvas. I prefer using a photo as a reference to paint from rather than plein air, as I can reinterpret the scene and emphasise the stories captured within the moment.
