Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work mostly with oil paint on canvas, but nothing can really beat spontaneous pencil marks on paper. Oil paint gives me great colour and a build up of layers. Drawing gives me detail.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
My ideas come mostly from being 'out bush'. I only paint what I have experienced for myself in the natural habitat. I draw the subject and plan the composition, transfer it to canvas and loosely paint in the details. Then I work in layers of oil paint. With Still Life I get to play in the studio.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I live near the forest in the Perth hills and have natural bush in my backyard, so I can just pop outside the studio door and find a wildflower subject. I have room to leave a Still Life set up and several uncompleted works around.
