Artist Profile
Elena’s artwork’s marks are scattered in fragments, some in incospicious spots thoughout the space, inviting viewers to search, and imagine as they inspect the artworksrnElena Berkovich has intentionally ignored the realistic representation of landscapes, investigating other abstract aspects of scenes and life cracks. Reduced imaginary, rough surfaces, shadows and many colour leyers, represent her works. the arrangement of these is expresive, the empty spaces, the composition, everything has its share.
Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I have worked with Acrylic on perspex, the end result is visualy beautiful, very appealing, nevertheless the work involved its quite laborious. I worked on large pieces, these were difficult to transport and quite delicate. I have done large sculptures, worked also with wire, timber, and many other mediums. At the moment I work with linen or canvas, which I am finding quite interesting, and user friendly… Whaever that means
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
Firstly, I would write an essay about the future body of works, this way I can feel what I am painting about, regardless if these are abstract portraits or landscapes or situations. Secondly I draw endlesly, once I start getting confident I choose drawings, these finally end up modified as paintings.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I am blessed to have a studio in a fabulous warehouse, where another 21 Artists, also have studios. We usually get together every first Monday of the month, and discuss Art, our work in progress, our sorrows for lack of inspiration, etc. A fabulous enviroment to create.
