Meet Erin Collins, a dedicated mother, Biologist, teacher, and passionate artist based in Meanjin (Brisbane), Australia. Erin’s artwork reflects her appreciation for nature’s beauty, womanhood, the Australian Lifestyle and her personal experiences and life’s joys.
Erin loves to capture Australian scenes, people and wildlife, featuring thick brush strokes, mixed textures and bright palettes.
Outside of time spent in her at-home studio, Erin indulges in her love for good food and wine with family and friends, and cherishes time spent with her young children, immersing them in nature around Queensland and at her family’s farm in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales.

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
Modelling paste and impasto – LOVE to create varying textures Thick bodied acrylic and oil paints – enjoy the look and feel of thick paints, love the sheen of oil paints, and the quick drying time of acrylic.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
Inspiration mainly comes from my life. I love to delve into nature. Oceans, rivers, bushland, rainforests, tidal pools, and farmland. I am obsessed with the sun and would call myself a sun worshipper. Most of my work focuses on the beauty of nature and the Australian lifestyle. I also love to dine and share moments with friends and family. I will find inspiration from photos (mostly my own) or images and sketch them in a sketch book before creating a larger piece. I want the piece to make you feel something – a memory or a moment.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
Currently working out of a home studio in Brisbane. I am renovating my Large shed as I am now outgrowing my original studio space.
