Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with oils. Starting out, I tried a few different mediums but just kept coming back to oils. I love their versatility and the texture and depth you can create which no other medium can emulate.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
I usually have an idea in mind and set up my own still life. Sometimes I get my inspiration from Pinterest and muck about until I get the exact composition I love. I then sketch out my artwork after prepping my canvas or cradled wood and work in layers. The first layer is usually colour blocking and getting the main shapes and shadows in. The second layer is correcting colour and adding depth and the third layer is usually highlights, final touches and and impasto effect I want to bring.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
My luxe studio is literally my garage haha. I am a self taught painter so I set myself up near the window in the garage and practised when the kids were napping. Hopefully one day we can create a studio for me but for now my little cold garage will do.
