Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
Acrylic on canvas. Allows me to be bold and expressive with colour and texture. The versatility lets me experiment with different techniques, while the canvas provides a strong foundation. Hand stitching adds another layer of depth and a point of difference to my art, creating a tactile element that feels personal and connected. It is a slower more deliberate process that contrasts beautifully with the immediacy of painting, giving my work an added dimension, making each piece feel more intimate. Perfect combination of spontaneity and patience in my creative journey.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
My creative process begins with a spark of inspiration, whether it is a moment of reflection, a colour palette, a bloom or a feeling I want to convey. From there I sketch the initial concept exploring form and composition. Using acrylics I bring these ideas to life layering bold colours and textures. Finishing with intuitive hand stitching detail bringing depth and intricacy to each piece. Once the artwork feels complete, I refine details to ensure everything flows together and often colour match frames to the artwork.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
My creative workspace is my haven—my calm, my happy place. I’m lucky to have a space at home where I can create, surrounded by views of the Tasmanian mountains and ever-changing skies and colours. It is a constant source of inspiration, where light shifts throughout the day, bringing new moods and energy to my work. Here, I can immerse myself in the process, letting color, texture, and emotion unfold naturally.
