Meron enjoys painting with acrylic, the ease of blending the paint and using both fine and bold strokes ensure every painting has it’s own unique quality and character.

To paint a picture is comforting and an absorbing experience, an escape in so many ways and it is always an absolute delight and compliment to know that when a painting is purchased, someone else enjoys the painting too.

Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I enjoy painting with acrylics, the ease of blending the paint and using both fine and bold strokes. Importantly acrylic paint dries quickly so there are no hold ups waiting for the paint to dry.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I am always looking for a flower or leaf or tree that has an interesting shape or colour for the inspiration for my next painting. Familiar flowers become monumental, plucked from their homes tucked away in nature and depicted large to appreciate the subtle details of each individual petal, stamen or leaf. My works take a closer look at the things we often miss in our daily lives with large, dramatic canvases granting us a bee's eye view of nature. Quite often it will change into something quite different from the original but that's the fun of painting, it has endless compositional possibilities.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I consider myself very lucky to have two studios, one in her 140 year old home in inner Brisbane, and another in the Northern Rivers of NSW. I find that the two very different environments inspire very different works. My city paintings tend to be tighter and more controlled with finer details whereas the country paintings are looser, and the details are much more relaxed with big sweeps of colour.

It's an absolute treat to be able to capture different light, attitude and pace.
