Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work primarily in acrylic, using delicate glazes and light washes to build depth and luminosity. This approach challenges the medium’s inherent qualities as I blend and manipulate the paint to achieve softness and fluidity. Fascinated by how different mediums interact, I experiment with mixed media and push traditional techniques, working intuitively and allowing the paint to move freely on the canvas.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
My process begins with constant observation of the landscape, mentally cataloguing details like shifting light and textures. I use a sketchbook to explore these impressions, experimenting with marks and colours to refine ideas and themes. When painting, I aim to channel the mood of the exhibition theme, ensuring each piece feels connected to the others in the series, both visually and emotionally, to create a cohesive body of work for exhibition.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
I work from my home studio, a dedicated space that allows me to fully focus on my art. Motivated by my environment, my studio is filled with personal mementos that keep me connected to memories, important as my work comes from a place of nostalgia. I'm self-disciplined with working hours while also allowing for spontaneity. The balance between structure and flexibility in my home studio suits my creative and independent nature.
