Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I work with a diverse range of mediums, including acrylic paint, oil pastels, charcoal, ink, and occasionally collage. I select these materials because they offer a rich array of textures and visual excitement, adding depth and vibrancy to my work. Each medium allows me to explore different facets of my artistic vision, bringing a dynamic and tactile quality to my work that engages the viewer's senses and enhances the storytelling in my art.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

Taking my artwork from initial concept to exhibition stage is an intuitive process. It begins with inspiration drawn from everyday experiences, nature, and spontaneous moments. I sometimes start with sketches or notes, capturing the essence of my ideas.
Next, I experiment with different mediums—acrylic paint, oil pastels, charcoal, ink, pencil, and collage—each chosen for its unique texture and visual impact. This stage is highly experimental and fluid, allowing me to explore various techniques and compositions.
As the artwork develops, I constantly refine and adjust, this involves layering materials, reworking sections, and integrating new elements to enhance the overall visual appeal.
Once the piece feels complete, I prepare it for exhibition by selecting framing or presentation methods that best showcase the artwork.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

I have a beautiful sunlit studio in the heart of Brookvale. Sugar House Studios which I started with 2 others, features a stunning gallery, a spacious workshop area, and sun-drenched resident artist studios. It's located in the vibrant Brookvale Arts District, providing an inspiring environment for creativity and collaboration.
