Acrylic Painting
Sebnem Gencer
Sebnem is an Artist whose work explores memory, transformation, and connection through landscapes.rnFor her, painting is an intensely personal journey. She finds comfort in the fleeting moments and impressions that shape our lives. The traces of love and loss take form on my canvas, transforming into tangible echoes of memory. Each line, texture, and colour becomes an expression of growth, change, and resilience.rnHer art reflects how we move through the world and how we carry beauty within us as we leave our own marks behind. In her cityscapes, she does more than paint a view, she preserves a memory, a love, a loss, or a trace that has transformed her. Through artist's paintings, she hopes to invite others into that same embracing space that art offers her, a place where they, too, might discover their own memories and emotions.

Artist Interview
What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?
I work with heavy body acrylics, applied directly from bottles without using brushes. This technique lets me paint line by line, creating texture, precision, and a unique rhythm in every cityscape. It gives my work its sculptural feel and captures the energy of the places I paint.
How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?
My artworks usually begin with a spark an emotion, a memory, or a moment from a city I’ve experienced. I usually take photos if I can be able to then I start with loose sketches and a colour direction, then slowly build the piece line by line until the texture and form feel right. After the work is finished, I title, and frame it, preparing it thoughtfully for exhibition so the final presentation reflects the same intention as the creative process.
Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?
My studio is a small, light filled space in South Melbourne where I both work and exhibit my pieces. It’s calm, organized, and designed to let me focus on the slow, detailed process of building each artwork.
Artist Quote
– Opened my own art studio and gallery in South Melbourne, where I create, exhibit, and sell my artworks independently. This space has become a growing creative hub and a key step in establishing myself professionally in Melbourne’s art community.– I have exhibited my work at various art fairs both individually and as part of a team, showcasing my cityscape paintings to diverse audiences. These experiences have strengthened my presence within the Australian art scene, and I’m looking forward to participating in even more art fairs throughout 2026.
