Artist Profile

Stephanie Perrins is an Australian artist whose work is deeply inspired by the lush, vibrant landscapes that surround her. Drawing from the rich colors, textures, and patterns found in nature, she creates expressive, semi-abstract pieces that evoke a sense of place and wonder.

Her art practice is centered on the idea of “creativity with intention,” where every brushstroke and colour choice is made with purpose, aiming to capture the essence of the natural world while also reflecting her inner emotions and thoughts. Whether it’s through her depiction of eclectic florals and landscapes, or the intricate patterns she weaves into her compositions, Stephanie’s art invites viewers to pause, reflect, and find beauty in the organic, ever-changing world around us.

Artist Interview

What medium do you work with, and why have you chosen them?

I’m always exploring new possibilities with colour and mediums. My creative process typically begins with watercolours or inks, gradually building up layers with acrylics, and culminating with a touch of oil pastel. I’m particularly drawn to rich, deep hues and love experimenting with unexpected colour combinations. Though I often start with a specific palette in mind, the creative process often leads me down unexpected paths, resulting in outcomes that surpass my original vision. I find joy in playing with layers, texture, and contrast, and I relish the depth and complexity that mixed media and layering can bring to my work.

How does your artwork get from initial concept to exhibition stage?

I start each piece with a sense of exploration, letting the process guide me rather than sticking to a rigid plan. I integrate yoga, meditation and mindfulness into my creative practice and will always seek to be in a state of flow before I start to create. I also embrace experimentation and collaboration as key components of my practice. Whether it’s trying out new techniques or engaging in creative dialogue with others, I believe that art is a dynamic, evolving conversation. I aim to create pieces that evoke the textures, colours, and emotions of the outdoor world, while also pushing the boundaries of what I can achieve as an artist. When I can place a piece on my wall and resist the urge to change something, I know the process has finished.

Can you tell us a little more about your creative working environment/studio?

My creative working environment is a blend of structure and spontaneity, shaped by both my roles as a mum and an artist. I often find pockets of time to paint around my kids' schedules, which brings a natural ebb and flow to my creative process. My workspace is split between my at-home studio— garage in the back of our garden—and my computer, where I dive into graphic design projects.

As a qualified graphic designer, I absolutely love collaborating with brands and other creatives, whether it’s painting graphics or developing unique pattern designs. This dual approach means some days are filled with hands-on creativity in the studio, while others are spent bringing those visions to life digitally. It’s a dynamic environment that keeps me inspired and allows me to balance the many facets of my creative journey.
